Gifts of Everyday Beauty
February 1, 2015
Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.
- Henry Ward Beecher
One of the soul’s greatest pleasures is noticing the things that are reminders of everyday beauty. The simple things. Nature. A leaf, a petal, a raindrop. To me, it brings a sense of “Woah, wait a minute, slow down… enjoy”. That moment when something catches your eye and stops you in your tracks to marvel at its beauty… I find myself immediately taken to a place of calmness and peace. It’s a true joy to be able to connect with that beauty and to allow it to resonate within.
In our rush through daily life we tend to miss the little details that, when we really look at them, can bring us delight in a way nothing else can. We often make ourselves so busy – getting to that appointment, working overtime, housework, etc – that noticing the small things is the last thing on our minds. It’s true, life doesn’t stop and stuff needs to get done, but taking a moment to appreciate the tiny wonders can prompt you to remember and appreciate what I consider to be the essence of our existence – beauty is everywhere.
This is what I aim to convey in my artwork… how the simplest things are often the most exquisite and meaningful…. how they are always all around us, just waiting for us to notice them. And not merely just to notice them, but to truly appreciate them in all their glory. To celebrate their exceptionally unique and distinctive qualities. To be grateful just for their existence… for it reminds us to be grateful for our own.
On a personal level, I’m grateful to be able to share my passion with you in the hope it will resonate with you, too. It’s a big leap for me to put my work “out there”, to overcome my fears and work towards pursuing my creative dream. I am vulnerable, but I am brave. My intention is to create, share, inspire and encourage, and hope that like-minded individuals will join me on my journey. Will you?
Stay beautiful,
Rae.
